The Love Note by Tin Can Knits is one of those patterns you want to make again and again. Most of my knitting friends have at least one. It’s just that good. I love the simple, clear way the pattern is written, I love the ease of modification and the range of sizes is all-inclusive. It is this last quality that brings me to write to you today.

This is a Love Note I knit for a sweetheart grand niece who just turned two. The yarn is Blue Sky Fibers-Sweater in Lake. The website describes this yarn as “Soft, family friendly and machine washable. Sweater is versatile and the perfect blend of superwash wool and cotton.” Eliminating the mohair and going with a washable wool/cotton blend was the perfect choice for a toddler sweater and a mama who has another on the way. This yarn is a worsted weight, so I knit the 1-2 yr size. I found the cutest legging at an online boutique. The blue matched perfectly, which never happens. See those buttons along the neckline? They were given to me by a colleague whose mom had quite the collection. I couldn’t have asked for a better embellishment. I attached the buttons in a way that makes them easy for mom to remove if she wishes (but why would she?). The decision to make it short-sleeved was driven by my desire to make the garment multi-seasonal and if she had a growth spurt, the sleeves would never be an issue.
This was a fast and fun knit. If you haven’t knit one for yourself or someone you know, what the heck are you waiting for? Permission to cast on granted!

I am the odd one, never made a Love Note or a Ranunculus 😺

I am going to post about my Ranunculus next! I prefer the Love Note’s ease. There were parts of the Ranunculus pattern that required video support. A beautiful sweater none the less! I do recommend them both.

I haven’t knit either of them too. I like seeing other people’s but can’t see me wearing them.

I sort of feel the same 😺

Is there a sweater you have knit more than once? It is interesting to see the qualities that appeal to knitters. I had a favorite raglan rolled-neck sweater that I knit for my boys year after year. It was a classic.

I am knitting the Sorrel for the second time, after knitting the Summer Sorrel once already. In the first one I faded the yarn as described by the pattern, here I am fading the mohair. A very different experience 😺

I’ve made 3 Turtle Dove and 2 Such a Winters Day jumpers, so definitely not against repeating patterns. I just need a jumper to be warm and prefer a high neck. 😃

I’ll check them out! I just looked up @iduchatelle’s recommendation for the Sorrel and I love it!

Having two boys, I never had the opportunity to explore all the adorable patterns for girls. Couldn’t stop myself from adding the buttons; they matched so well!
Have a blessed weekend, Sue.

Yaay I’m not the only one who went for thicker yarn and had to play with the pattern a bit! What a perfect little outfit, I love how the buttons tie in with the pattern on the leggings to really finish it off.

Thanks, Hannah! Did you knit yours in a worsted weight, too?

I went with chunky, if I hadn’t had to frog and redo it so many times it would’ve gone super quickly.

I found it in a July post. I have to take an afternoon and read your older posts, I have missed out on so many of your super projects!

That’s so cute!
I knit 3 during the pandemic lockdown, the first 2 from stash. First was fingering weight plus mohair, souvenirs from retreats. The other 2 from DK weight. All short sleeved, and relatively cropped due to the amount of yarn I had. Great for teaching on Zoom, too!

Three seems to be the magic number. It’s such a versatile pattern.

Okay, I am one of the few knitters on the planet who hasn’t made a Love Note, but now I’m rethinking that. I have a greatly loved Rannuculus that kind of occupies the same niche in my knitted wardrobe, but now I’m thinking that there is room for some Love Note action too. Love the matching leggings.

You won’t be disappointed whether you knit it as written or go crazy with modifications. It’s a nice easy knit.
