Look What the Cat Dragged In

I thought I would give you an update on my knitting follies. Thanks to the generous support and endless creativity of my amazing readers, I have decided to resurrect the yarn from my past fails. And here they are:

The simpler the better for this yarn. I attempted socks and fingerless mitts, but the yarn was too fine, the circumferences were too small and the needles were too dark for my aging eyeballs.

I am taking the advice of Mildlygranola who recommended casting on something simple and fun. And that’s exactly what I did. I started a Sockhead Cowl by Kelly McClure. I love the Sockhead patterns for their ease and how they showcase the colors in the wool. I am naming this project Bandicoot after that lovable video game character Crash!

Next up is the former Weekender, now the future Felix Pullover by Savory Knitting. I have admired this pattern since it was released. Why didn’t I think of this sooner? It has all the features I love in a sweater: top-down, raglan sleeves and a bit o’ eyelet. I think it will be a perfect match. I have named this project Venus Adept after Felix, the main character in the video game Golden Sun. Felix is a Venus Adept, and a main playable character in Golden Sun: The Lost Age. See what I did there?

Regina, you are quite the clever one.

I also knit a pattern that has long been in my queue. These are the Simple House Slippers by Temple of Knit. This is a great pattern to have in your library. They are simple to knit, customizable for any yarn weight and for my size (8.5 US or smaller) great for using up less than 55g of worsted weight yarn. Knit them, you won’t regret it!

In non-knitting news…

That wonderful potter, Margaret of WildDesignNY has been at it again and just look at the beautiful pieces that are blessing our home:

I really wish you could see the glaze up close and personal. The colors are so divine. So get to know Margaret, and if you need a personal trainer, she’ll kick your butt and whip you into shape. Get Fit with Margaret.

Look what happened to me at work! My BFF Kate braided my hair! We had fun and she made me feel like a princess. Do you see all those red highlights? Those are natural. Would you believe that as a child I was a little toe head? All I need now is my tiara, but that won’t make an appearance until my birthday.

There has been a lot of activity at the Cosmicknitter household. One of my favorite springtime visitors has arrived.

Razz made another trip around the sun. My baby boy is 12 years old now. I feel like next year he should be allowed a date to the tailgate.

His brother Ben (featured on the right) gave him a birthday present fit for a good boy.

So much stuff. So little time. How have you all been? Please know that I am thinking of you and praying for you and hoping that you know that God is holding you close to His heart.

Saint of the Day: St. Florian. I won’t go into detail about his life and ultimate death because is it very tragic. You can learn more of his faith here. He is the protector of those in danger from fire or water, which are two very powerful forces.

P.S. I don’t know where I got the idea for this title from. Maybe I was inspired by a gift Razz dragged in; a garter snake. I can take a lot of stuff, but snakes and spiders freak me out!

    1. Hahaha! Karen, you are a sweetheart! The bone was the size of my mama thigh. Not even kidding! It felt so good to have projects on the needles that make me happy. Have you ever had a phase where nothing you cast on pleases you?

      4. Me too. It made sad when they were blocking people from the site. All I could think of was how some of these members got them to the level of popularity they were currently at. You can’t cut people out of your life when they helped you become who you are. Does that make sense?

      3. I was just reading through her free pattern and see she has an updated paid pattern. Which one are you knitting from? I also found one that seems similar in Ravelry that knits toe up… just had to translate it into English and I might give it a try as it looks the same just knitting from opposite end.

      7. I’ll have to try both. I’m wondering if doing on magic loop why not do the heel same way instead of having to sew up? Thoughts on yes or no in doing that… as you’ve made. Even though I have other projects on my needles as I’m currently also finishing up unfinished projects… I’m going to detour off. lol

      8. Well, the sewing is so minimal. I just left the tail long enough when I cast on and did a whip stitch. I am trying to picture the heel on magic loop. Do you have the pattern that I made? If not, I would love to gift it to you.

      9. I do not have the pattern you used. I saw she had a free one snd had read through it in trying to see the similarity of the other one I found but I can’t get the translation-correction to come through right. It keeps saying dc and I know they must mean knit but it’s boggling me

      12. I’m curious… Is there any reason that you couldn’t magic loop or work in the round from the very beginning?? I don’t understand the concept of knitting it flat then in the round for going towards the foot/toe. As you’ve knitted them you probably could better attest to an answer

  5. A Snake ? My goodness ! That would be my worst nightmare !
    Lovely knits as always and I love the fact that you are reusing yarn from projects that for some reason never made it to completion. That is something I too try to do. But first I actually have to accept that I really won’t finish what ever it was I started and that can sometimes be a struggle 🙂

    1. I agree with you. I have to remind myself sometimes that it is ok to take out a project if I am not enjoying it or I will not feel good wearing it. Ultimately, I think I am getting better at picking patterns that really compliment my knitting style.

    1. That bone will meted out in tiny doses. Left to his own devices, he would sit outside and gnaw on that for hours. You know me, I love creatures, but snakes and spiders are where I draw the line.

      2. Like he hid that snake? One thing about Razz is that he loves to share with his mama. You can’t believe how his breath stinks after a few minutes with that bone. Only a big brother could have given him a gift like that!

  12. Well Razz looks like he has relished his birthday present. I love that crockery, it’s beautiful. St Florian is interesting but again had an unfortunate ending. I see he is the patron of Linz in Austria – I delivered a paper at the University quite a few years ago. It’s a lovely town. Snakes are fabujous beasts – though I’m not sure I would be quite so enthusiastic if I found a venemous one quite so close to the house. Oh – and I love the braid – looks so good!

    1. Razz is still working on that bone. Only a big brother who doesn’t have to clean the paws or carpets would think of giving a gift like that!! I marvel at the saints. In spite of their challenges, they faced their deaths with such grace and joy.
      As for the snake. It was a while before I let Razz give me kisses!
